Optus Employees Lose More Than 200 Lbs. July 27, 2009
Jonesboro, AR - Employees of Optus, Inc. recently completed the first Optus Healthy Lifestyle Challenge competition and lost a total of 205 lbs. combined. The contest ran for 6 weeks and gave employees an opportunity to compete for cash prizes based on either percentage of weight lost or points earned for participating in designated healthy lifestyle activities. Of the company's 100 Jonesboro-based employees, 26 completed all 6 weeks of the competition. An awards luncheon was held at Optus' headquarters on Friday, July 24. As part of the celebration event, representatives from Fitness Boot Camp Unlimited, NEA Clinic Wellness Center, St. Bernards Medical Center for Weight Loss and Weight Watchers were on hand to provide information to Optus employees to help them with taking the next step in improving their health.
The winners of the Weight Loss Competition were as follows: 1st Place - Daniel Brewington, 2nd Place - Brad Partee and 3rd Place - Teresa Clayton and Shane Lerma. Honorable Mentions were also awarded in this competition to Audrey Boggs, Kenny Payne, Bobby Sarrels and Mandy Whitmire for losing 10 lbs. or more. In the Healthy Lifestyle Activity Competition, there was a 3-way tie for 1st Place - Shane Lerma, Lisa Lutz and Kenny Payne. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Audrey Boggs, Teresa Clayton, Margaret Hale, Rose Prater, Ruth Ann Vore and Shirley Wilson. Other employees that completed the contest were Tom Brown, Gayle Bryant, Ronnie Campbell, Chasity Carter, Eva Duckworth, Denay Hoskins, Barlisa Johnson, Ruby Johnston, Kelly Kincaid, Lincoln Martin, Ketrena Sipes, Lori Smith and John Townsand.
A second phase of the competition is already in the works and will run for 3 months. Optus President and CEO Mark Duckworth shared, "We are so pleased with not only the results of this competition but also with the enthusiasm shared by all of our participants. This has made us much more aware of small differences we can make in the workplace that can have a large impact on our employees' health and overall wellbeing."
